- Posted on: Jul 5 2016
Are you bothered by have bumps and pimples of rosacea or persistent redness that is difficult to control? Physical modalities and devices, such as lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) systems, have revolutionized the way rosacea is treated. At the recent World Meeting of the International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology in Panama City, Dr. Kroumpouzos reviewed the indications for these modalities and provided tips that improve the outcomes of laser and light treatments in rosacea.
Lasers that have been successfully used in rosacea include the long pulsed dye (595 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm). Advances in IPL systems that increased their efficacy in rosacea, include improved cooling, development of laser-like hand pieces, and higher power in the shorter pulse durations. Dr. Kroumpouzos will discusses with the patient which lasers and IPL devices are suited for their specific type of rosacea. A combination therapy, i.e. using 2 or more different approaches within a single session, is often required for optimal results. The above devices may improve flushing and papulopustular rosacea when combined with medical therapies.
